East Liberty Family Health Care Center
Wendy is a native of Montreal, Quebec, where she became a doctor after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Physiology at the prestigious McGill University. She continued her education to receive a Doctor of Medicine / Master of Surgery degree and a host of certifications in the medical field. Shortly after, she began caring for patients at Clinique Communautaire de Pointe St. Charles in Montreal, a community health center whose mission of serving the poor resembles that of our Center. Wendy's academic success would have allowed her to practice medicine anywhere she chose, but her deep concern for international missions led her to travel to Limuru, Kenya (as a Missionary of the Anglican Church of Canada) where she taught and rendered healthcare as well as helped the Diocese of Mount Kenya South establish a Community Health Care project. And then God called her to Pittsburgh and to the Center! The East Liberty Family Health Care Center has a 14-year relationship with the Church of Ascension in Pittsburgh where Wendy is a faithful member and currently the leader of the Prayer Ministry. She applies the same humble approach to Family Practice Medicine as she does to prayer ministry. She believes that her role is to partner with patients to help them understand and care for the human body. She says that a significant part of this process involves listening and being taught by her patients. She honors patients, "clothing them in respect", by being candid about their care, praying with them, and standing with them. Wendy supports East Liberty Family Health Care Center because the culture, characterized by her as collaborative and service-oriented, results in a truly integrated approach to "whole-person" care. She is most passionate about the Mental Health Program and supports our goal of raising $5,000 toward the Center's new therapist, Marina Dantzler. This goal would enable Marina to serve more than 50 patients in the current year. Wendy, whose life is a beautiful message about God's compassion, has selected "Lifesong" by Casting Crowns to be entered into the competition for the Top 10 song at Joyful Noise. We honor Dr. LeMarquand for her inspiring service as a physician and world missionary, and for her loving and gentle spirit that endears her to her patients, her co-workers, and her fellow church members alike.
Dr. Wendy LeMarquand has been a Family Practice Physician with the East Liberty Family Health Care Center for 10 years. She has been a physician for 28 years, providing whole-person healthcare domestically and globally. She is married to the Rev. Dr. Grant LeMarquand who is a Professor of Theology in Mission and New Testament Studies at Trinity School for Ministry and Priest in the Anglican Church. They have two children, David (who has worked at the Center's front desk from time to time) and Cara.
